Some people just have all the luck, and that certainly goes for a group of residents from Ohio who have collectively bagged more than 100 lottery wins over the past three years. One particular man from this group has won more than 150 times since 2014, amassing over $150,000 in winnings.
Then there was another man who managed to win more than $500,000 from 142 wins since early 2014. The other frequent winners are all from around the greater Ohio area, and each have managed to win in excess of $100,000.
"If you're asking me about the odds of that occurring, it would probably be considered an outlier," said Jack O'Donnell, deputy director of the office of security for the Ohio Lottery.
While it may look suspicious, there are no official investigations underway nor are there any suspicions of foul play.
"I don't think it's surprising," said Dr. Bill Notz, a statistician at Ohio State University. "In fact, to some extent, I would say you're almost guaranteed of having seven winners that have won at least one hundred times."
Notz has said that these odds are entirely possible depending on how frequently one plays.
"As long as you're throwing in one of the tickets a week, you could very easily end up as one of these seven people," he added.
Regardless of this, the National Lottery Services say they regularly investigate instances such as this, asking the winners to see the winning tickets to be able to determine if there has been any foul play.
