The self-employed joiner from Rochdale, Greater Manchester, started his day like any other by reading his emails. But he had no idea of what he was in for when he opened his laptop with his coffee at 6am on Saturday morning.
After reading an email from the EuroMillions lottery operators he started shaking when he read the part of how much he had won: the £58 million jackpot.
Hardly believing what he had just read, he hopped into his van and headed to his parents house for a second opinion. Maintaining social distancing he handed his phone to his parents through the window of his car while they confirmed the news; he was really £58 million richer.
The jackpot win means that he now ranks 20th on the UK National Lottery millionaires list, which records the biggest lottery wins from the United Kingdom.
My Hoyle said it took a few days for the shock to wear off before he began to properly process the news. His newfound fortune now makes him richer than A-list celebrities like Emma Watson, Harry Styles and Megan Fox.
He said the first thing he plans on doing with the money is helping his parents to retire. “Right now I’m not focused on spending it on myself. I’m going to see the family right as well as my closest friends," he told The Sun.
He said he also plans on taking his 11-year old daughter to Disneyland once the travel restrictions have been lifted, and to help his brother with home renovations.
After years of buying EuroMillions tickets twice a week from his local shops, the nationwide lockdown prompted Mr Hoyle to buy his tickets online for the first time ever. And it was one of these tickets that bagged him the £58 million.
Buying lottery tickets online is quick, easy and gives you the chance to play in international lotteries that you won't find in your local shops. You get to play for official jackpot amounts, as well as all the other prize tiers offered by the official lottery games.
