Lorie Sykes, who works as a special needs care worker, stopped at a roadside petrol station on her way to Virginia because she was craving a slushie and ended up buying a few lotto scratch tickets too.
Along with buying her drink, she bought a few lottery scratch tickets thinking she might win a few dollars. She waited until she arrived at home before scratching her tickets.
After seeing that she'd won a massive prize she thought to herself; “I looked at the ticket and I thought ‘that can’t be right. It’s so surprising. I just can’t believe it.’”
Lorie won a $250,000 jackpot, of which she took home $178,000 after taxes and opting for the lump sum.
She plans on building her dream home with her winnings. “This is life-changing, I want to build a four-bedroom house with room for my family to come visit," said Lorie.
