Among the 180 residents of Bere Island, a tiny community just 180 miles North of Dublin, is a EuroMillions jackpot winner. And they might not even know it yet!
A week prior to the draw a EuroMillions ticket was sold at the local Bere Island post office; little did the person who bought that ticket know that they would soon be £440,000 richer. The small island village has been abuzz with gossip about who the lucky ticket holder could be, but nobody has come forward as of yet to claim their winnings.
Mary Murphy, who works at the Bere Island Post Office, sold the winning ticket and told Sky News; "I did buy my ticket but I checked it straightaway when I got a phone call the morning after. It has to be a local."
Brendan Murphy, Mary's brother and the Bere Island postman, said that since the win was announced the locals have been talking about nothing else. Also speaking to Sky News he said, "My wife rang me to say that Mary rang her to say that the winner had bought the ticket on Bere Island on Monday. So, the crows started to gather in a small place like Bere Island and news filtered very quick that it was local, first of all."
