After losing her job last year during the Covid-19 pandemic a North West mother had a significant change in fortune after a single Powerball ticket won her the grand prize of R158 million.
After buying just one ticket on the day of the draw the mother of three could hardly believe it when she saw her set of lucky numbers match all those on the night of the official draw.
"When I saw the winning Powerball numbers, I knew that I had won the Powerball jackpot of R158 million, but I kept on checking the numbers throughout the day to ensure that I was not mistaken or that I would wake up from a dream", she told an Ithuba facilitator. The winner has chosen to stay anonymous to protect herself and immediate family.
The winner only bought a single ticket at the cost of R15 on the day of the draw from a SuperSpar in Pretoria. She says that she plans of spoiling her family and making other investments with the winnings.
"I would love to travel to Durban, as I have never been there before and I have always wanted to go there for a family vacation at the seaside," she said.
A portion of the jackpot will go toward renovating the family's home, including new furniture and all the latest appliances and gadgets. The rest will go toward the children's education, a trust fund for their future and various charities.
Since bagging the jackpot the winner has had access to councillors and lawyers who have been advising her on how to manage her newfound wealth.
