Adul Saosongyang, 35, has been taken into police custody after he attempted to cash a $10 million winning lottery ticket that he stole from his friend and roommate. The Vacaville police department shared details of his arrest in a Facebook post that has since gone viral.
He
was arrested at the Sacramento Lottery’s District Office where he
was attempting to cash the stolen winning ticket. Police had already
been tipped off after the ticket’s original owner reported the
theft to police saying that he suspected that his friend had stolen
the ticket.
The original owner of the winning ticket, who has asked not to be named, said that he bought the $30 lottery ticket hoping to win a little extra cash for the holidays and was thrilled to see he had won a big jackpot. He then rushed home to tell his friends the good news.
When he went to cash his ticket the next day he was told that the ticket he had was not a winner and that it had been altered. It was then he realised that his the winning ticket had been stolen and contacted the police who then set up an operation to nab the thief when he tried to collect the $10 million.
