When Raymond Lillington kept playing in the Canada Lotto after bagging his first multi-million jackpot he never really expected to match those winnings. Which is why he literally had his wife pinch him after seeing he had won in last Wednesday's Canada Lotto draw.
He turned to his wife saying, "You'd better pinch me but I think it's us again." After seeing that his ticket had won him the $17.4 million jackpot. HIs win is the second-largest jackpot claimed by anyone in Nova Scotia.
Raymond claimed his first jackpot in 2013 when he won the $3.2 million jackpot playing in the Canada Lotto. The 70-year old retired parks worker said he could not imagine what the odds of winning the jackpot twice are.
“Six out of six numbers with the odds that they are – and to do it twice, I was just overwhelmed,” Lillington said. He had to check his ticket seven times before reality finally set in.
His first jackpot helped him secure his retirement while also paying off all his debts. He also travelled with his wife and bought the two a brand new house and cars.
He says that this latest jackpot will go toward helping their five children and six grandchildren. New houses and cars, paying off debts and sending the grandchildren to the best schools are some of the things we says the money will go toward.
“We’re from a small area in Cape Breton and we have our own small hospitals and stores, and they all need help,” said Raymond. He also said he was happy for the owner of the store who sold him the winning ticket, who will receive around $170,000 for selling the winning ticket.
