On the 15th of April in a small town in North Carolina Peter Beckage sat down to enjoy a pancake breakfast with his granddaughter Kelly, not knowing that later that day their lives would be changed forever.
Earlier that same day Peter had bought a ticket for a local lottery draw, and when he tuned in that night to watch the draw he wasn't expecting to win much. So he was properly shocked when he won a $25,000 sum a year for the rest of his life!
He told a local newspaper that; 'when I got all five numbers, I couldn’t believe it. I had a hard time getting back to sleep I was so excited.’ He waited until the next day to first tell his daughter, and then his granddaughter that he had won.
Peter has said that he plans on donating the entire prize to his granddaughter who has hopes of going on to become a teacher. She will be using the money to pay for her tuition, and any other costs involved with her studies.
She told reporters that being able to focus more on her studies is a dream come true, ‘I’ve always dreamed of being a Catholic school teacher and helping people. This money makes it possible for me.’
